Ultra Bee HP 2026 Review: 9 Powerful Reasons It Is the Best

Ultra Bee HP 2026 Review: 9 Powerful Reasons It Is the Best

The Ultra Bee HP 2026 is the most powerful bike Sur-Ron has built: 24.5 kW peak in Turbo mode, 520 Nm at the rear wheel, a 74 V 60 Ah battery and up to 115 km of range, on a forged frame with 240 mm forks. We sell it, inspect it and service it at Surron E-Bikes in Coalville, so this review is about how those numbers feel rather than how they read.

Figures are Sur-Ron UK’s MY26 specification; prices are ours at the time of writing, and the product page has the live numbers.

1. The motor: 24.5 kW and 520 Nm

The standard Ultra Bee was already the fastest Sur-Ron. The Ultra Bee HP 2026 fits a new motor and controller that lift peak output to 24.5 kW in Turbo and 21.5 kW in Sport, with 520 Nm at the rear wheel. Sur-Ron quotes 0–31 mph in 1.84 seconds and 0–50 mph in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 59 mph. On loose ground the number that matters is torque: it will spin the rear wheel in any mode if you ask it to, which is why the traction control is not a gimmick.

2. Turbo mode and six power modes

There are six selectable power modes plus Turbo. The lowest is genuinely gentle – a newer rider can learn the bike on it – and each step up adds throttle response and peak power. Turbo unlocks the full 24.5 kW and is best left for open ground until you know how the bike behaves. Adjustable energy recovery lets you set how hard it regenerates on a closed throttle, which on long descents is worth several kilometres of range.

3. Traction control that actually works

The Sur-Ron Traction Control System (SRTC) on the Ultra Bee HP 2026 has three levels. Level 3 keeps the rear hooked up on wet roots and gravel with almost no drama; level 1 lets it slide; off is off. For most UK trail riding we set customers up on level 2 and tell them to experiment. Combined with the 50:50 weight balance it makes a 24.5 kW bike surprisingly easy to ride quickly.

4. Battery, range and charging

The 74 V 60 Ah pack is the biggest in the range and gives up to 115 km (71.5 miles) at a steady 31 mph. Ridden hard in Turbo on a track, expect a fraction of that – but a full afternoon is normal. The 1000 W charger now stows on the bike and takes the pack from 20% to 80% in about 2.5 hours from a normal socket; a full charge costs well under a pound.

Owning a Ultra Bee HP costs a fraction of running a petrol equivalent. The 74 V 60 Ah pack charges in about 2.5 hours from 20% to 80% from a normal socket for pennies, and there is no engine oil, no air filter, no valve clearances and no clutch to replace. What wears is brake pads, the chain and sprockets and tyres – stocked in our Ultra Bee HP parts range.

Battery care is the whole maintenance story. Keep it between roughly 20% and 80% when it is not being used, do not charge it while it is still hot from a hard ride, and never leave it empty over winter. Do that and the pack will hold its capacity for years.

5. Chassis: 240 mm forks, 18-inch rear, air shock

The Ultra Bee HP 2026 rides on custom suspension with 240 mm of front travel and an adjustable air rear shock, a 19-inch front and a new 18-inch rear wheel with a chunkier 100/90-18 tyre. Ground clearance is 315 mm and the seat is 910 mm – this is a full-size bike for full-size riders. At 88.5 kg it is heavier than a Light Bee but still lighter than any petrol 250, and the 50:50 balance on the forged aluminium frame is what makes it feel smaller than it is.

6. Brakes and belt drive

The brake callipers are 90% stiffer than before, and you feel it: a firm lever and real stopping power for a bike that reaches 50 mph in under four seconds. The primary drive uses a carbon-fibre-core belt running on a tungsten-carbide-coated pulley, which is quieter and longer-lived than a primary chain; the final drive is still a chain, so a sprocket change is a ten-minute job.

7. The app: ride data, anti-theft and updates

The Surron app pairs with the Ultra Bee HP 2026 for ride data, location-based anti-theft alerts and over-the-air updates. The anti-theft function is the one owners use most: the bike is silent and quick to load into a van, so knowing where it is matters. Updates mean the controller you buy today is not the controller you ride next year.

8. Ultra Bee HP 2026 X or T

Two homologations, one bike. The Ultra Bee HP X is off-road only: no type approval, no registration, private land and venues with permission. The Ultra Bee HP T is type-approved as an L3e motorcycle in the A1 (125-equivalent) class, so it can be registered with the DVLA, taxed, insured and ridden on the road – from 17 on a provisional licence with a CBT and L-plates, or on a full A1, A2 or A licence. GOV.UK lists the licence categories.

Fitting lights to an X does not make it a T. Type approval is a factory process, and it is the certificate of conformity that comes with the T that lets the DVLA register it.

Verdict, and how to buy

The Ultra Bee HP 2026 is the bike for riders who have outgrown a Light Bee or who want petrol-250 pace without the noise, the oil or the servicing. It is not a beginner’s bike – the Light Bee X is – but the six modes and traction control make it far more approachable than 24.5 kW suggests. If you are going to spend six thousand pounds on an electric dirt bike, this is where it should go.

  1. Tell us which Ultra Bee HP you want – online through the listing, by WhatsApp, or in person.
  2. Decide whether you want it delivered (our van covers 150 miles from Coalville for £19.99) or whether you will collect it for free.
  3. Settle the invoice by bank transfer, using the details we email you, or in crypto if you prefer.
  4. Leave the rest to the workshop: inspection, charge, torque check, then a delivery date or a “ready to collect” message, all inside 24 hours of payment clearing.

A lot of customers reserve first and pay the rest later. Pay 50% by bank transfer or crypto, we take the bike off sale, and you clear the balance before delivery or collection – details are on our finance and reservations page. Message us before paying a deposit so we can confirm your colour is physically in stock.

The difference between a dealer and a box-shifter shows up after the sale. We are an authorised Sur-Ron dealer: the bike arrives through official UK distribution, we inspect and charge it in our own workshop, we stock the parts it will need over its life, and warranty claims are dealt with by the people who sold it to you. Our warranty page explains what is covered.

If you want to see a bike first, book a showroom visit. We are in Coalville, Leicestershire, easy to reach from the M1 and M42, with parking outside the door.

Finding somewhere to ride is easier than it used to be. Search for motocross practice tracks and pay-and-play venues within an hour of you, phone to check they accept electric bikes and the rider’s age group, and ask about electric-only or youth sessions – many venues now run them because electric bikes solve their noise problem. Youth motocross clubs affiliated to the ACU are the other route, and club membership usually includes third-party cover.

Ultra Bee HP 2026 vs Light Bee X: which to buy

The Ultra Bee HP 2026 is not simply a faster Light Bee; it is a bigger, heavier, more serious bike. Side by side with the rest of the 2026 range:

If you are moving up from a Light Bee, the extra 30 kg is what you notice first and the extra 225 Nm is what you notice second. Riders under about 1.7 m, or with less than a season of off-road experience, are usually better served by the Light Bee X for another year.

On hand-over – at the showroom or from the van – we show you how the battery locks in and lifts out, how the charger connects, how to switch ride modes, and where the serial numbers are. It takes ten minutes and it saves a lot of messages later. If the rider is there, we set the seat height and pick a starting mode with them.

Ultra Bee HP 2026: first ride and set-up

  1. Read the ride-mode and battery sections of the manual – it takes ten minutes.
  2. Start in the lowest mode on open ground with no obstacles.
  3. Practise stopping: the front brake is powerful and the bike is light.
  4. Keep the first sessions short and finish before the rider is tired.
  5. Check the bolts after the first few rides; new bikes settle.

If you are anywhere in the Midlands we are probably closer than you think: Coalville sits between Leicester and Burton, a few minutes off the M1 at junction 22. Come and compare the bikes side by side, ask the workshop anything, pick up parts and, if you decide to buy, take the bike away the same day if it is in stock. Contact us first so we can have the right colour on the floor.

Jargon, translated:

  • Energy recovery – regenerative braking that puts charge back into the battery on a closed throttle.
  • Certificate of conformity – the document needed to register a type-approved bike with the DVLA.
  • Grey import – a bike bought abroad and shipped privately, usually without a UK warranty.
  • L1e – the EU/UK moped vehicle class; the Light Bee L1E is type-approved in it.
  • EAPC – electrically assisted pedal cycle, the 250 W legal e-bike category the Sur-Ron range is not part of.
  • Ride modes – selectable power levels; Mode 1 is the gentlest.
  • Big Wheel / Small Wheel – the two Hyper Bee wheel formats, 14/12 and 12/10 inches.
  • PDI – pre-delivery inspection: the checks a dealer makes before the bike leaves.
