A Light Bee L1E for sale is only worth its road-legal premium if the paperwork behind it is complete. A new bike needs a certificate of conformity the DVLA will accept; a used one needs a V5C in the seller’s name and a restriction that has not been tampered with. This guide gives you seven checks that cover paperwork, the bike and the price, from Surron E-Bikes in Coalville, Leicestershire – where the new 2026 L1E is £4,499 including VAT.
Prices are correct at the time of writing; the Light Bee L1E product page shows live colours and stock.

Check 1: the paperwork that makes a Light Bee L1E for sale road legal
The L1E is type-approved as an L1e-B moped, but the approval only helps you if the documents travel with the bike. New, that means a certificate of conformity (CoC) – the manufacturer’s statement that this frame number matches the approved type – which you send to the DVLA with form V55/4 to register it. Used, it means a V5C registration document showing the bike is already registered, plus ideally the original CoC and invoice.
- New Light Bee L1E for sale: certificate of conformity, invoice with frame number, UK charger.
- Used, registered: V5C in the seller’s name, matching frame number, MOT if over three years old.
- Used, never registered: only worth buying with the CoC; without it the bike cannot be plated.
- Import: may have no CoC at all – which makes it an expensive off-road bike.

Check 2: is the restriction intact?
The L1E is limited to 45 km/h (28 mph) as part of its moped class. Some used bikes have been derestricted, which takes them outside their type approval – illegal on the road, and a problem for insurance. Ask the seller directly, and on a test ride check that the bike tops out around 28 mph on the flat. A bike that pulls 45 mph is not a road-legal Light Bee L1E for sale, whatever the plate says.
Check 3: the battery
Roughly a third of the value of any Light Bee L1E for sale is the 72 V 35 Ah battery, and it cannot be judged by eye. Ask for a health read-out (our workshop can do one), ask how it was stored – indoors at around half charge is the answer you want – and compare the seller’s claimed range with the 75 km Sur-Ron figure. A pack left flat over a winter may be permanently down on capacity.
Check 4: the charger, lights and road kit
A UK-supplied L1E has a UK-plug charger. Then check everything the road kit adds: LED headlight, tail and brake light, indicators, mirrors, horn, number-plate mount and the emergency brake flash. All of it must work for the bike to be legal, and replacing a smashed headlight or bent mirror is money off the price.
- Headlight on dip and main, tail light and brake light on both levers.
- All four indicators, plus the switch and the horn.
- Mirrors present and undamaged; plate mount straight.
- Two-level wheelie control and the app (via T-Box) connecting.
- Frame around the headstock and swingarm, fork seals, chain, sprockets, discs, bearings.

Check 5: warranty and who stands behind the Light Bee L1E for sale
A new L1E from an authorised dealer carries a manufacturer warranty handled in the UK. A used one carries whatever is left of it, and only if it was UK-supplied. An import carries nothing. Ask the seller what happens if the controller fails in month three, and listen for a process rather than a shrug. Our warranty page sets out the cover on bikes we sell.
Check 6: the price
New, the 2026 Light Bee L1E for sale at Surron E-Bikes is £4,499 including VAT with the certificate of conformity, a UK charger, a pre-delivery inspection and the warranty. Used prices depend on age, battery and paperwork.
| Light Bee L1E for sale | Fair range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New 2026, authorised dealer | £4,499 | CoC, UK charger, inspection, warranty |
| Used 2025–26, registered, cared for | £3,300–£3,900 | V5C, invoice, healthy battery, restriction intact |
| Used, no V5C or CoC | Walk away | Cannot be registered |
| “New” import under £4,000 | Caution | Usually no CoC or UK warranty |
One more way to bring the price down: pay by cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum or USDT) and 15% is taken off automatically at checkout on any order over £400 – no code to enter, and you see the discount in the total before you place the order. Bank transfer is the other option; card payments are not taken online.
On a £4,499 L1E that is £675 off – more than the gap to most used bikes, on a new bike with the full paperwork.
If you would rather secure a bike now and pay the balance a little later, our reservation plan lets you hold a Light Bee L1E with a 50% deposit. There is no credit application and no waiting for a decision: you pay half, the bike comes off sale, and the remaining 50% is paid before delivery or collection on a date agreed with you.
Check 7: the seller
- Authorised dealer: showroom, workshop, parts, CoC supplied, warranty handled here. Safest.
- Private seller with V5C: fine if the battery and restriction check out and the paperwork matches.
- Marketplace “new” listing: ask for the trading address, dealer status, charger plug and CoC.
- Overseas seller: shipping, duty and VAT, and usually no usable CoC.
Why buy from us rather than a marketplace listing? Because a bike is only as good as the aftercare. Our Coalville workshop sees Sur-Rons every day, holds genuine Light Bee L1E parts on the shelf and handles warranty work directly. You get a real invoice with serial numbers for your insurer, a bike that has actually been checked, and someone to phone when you have a question.
There is no call centre and no ticket queue. Message us on WhatsApp, email contact@surronebike.org or visit the showroom Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and the person answering has probably built the bike you are asking about.
After you buy: licence, registration and the road
The L1E is an L1e-B moped in legal terms, which puts it in the AM licence category. At 16 you can ride it on a provisional licence with a CBT certificate and L-plates, without a pillion. A full car licence issued before 1 February 2001 carries full moped entitlement, so older riders need no CBT; a full A1, A2 or A licence covers it too. The 45 km/h (28 mph) restriction is what keeps it in that class – and what keeps insurance cheap.
- Order the bike and tell us it is for road use; we prepare the certificate of conformity (CoC) with the invoice.
- Apply for a provisional licence if you do not already hold one (from 15 years 9 months, to ride at 16).
- Book and pass a CBT – one day, no test at the end, valid for two years. Skip this step if you hold a full motorcycle licence or a car licence issued before February 2001.
- Arrange insurance using the frame number on the invoice; you need it in place before the bike can be taxed.
- Register the bike with the DVLA: form V55/4 for a new vehicle, the CoC, proof of identity, the £55 first registration fee and the first year’s tax (£27). The V5C and registration number follow by post.
- Fit the number plate and, if you are on a CBT, L-plates front and rear. Then ride.
Electric two-wheelers stopped being tax-exempt in April 2025, so budget £27 a year in vehicle tax alongside insurance. GOV.UK has the full licence rules.
Light Bee L1E for sale vs Light Bee X
| Light Bee X 2026 | Light Bee L1E 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | From £3,295 | £4,499 |
| Peak power / torque | 10 kW / 295 Nm | 10 kW / 295 Nm |
| Top speed | 50 mph | 28 mph (45 km/h, restricted) |
| Weight | 59 kg | 62 kg |
| Road legal | No | Yes – L1e moped, ride from 16 with a CBT |
| Best for | Tracks, trails, private land | Commuting plus weekend trails |

Found a Light Bee L1E for sale you are unsure about?
Send us the listing. We will tell you what to check on the paperwork, and quote a new bike with its CoC delivered so you can compare.
Delivery is handled by us, not a parcel courier. Once your payment clears the Light Bee L1E is inspected, charged and loaded into our van; within 150 miles of Coalville that costs £19.99, and for longer trips we quote first. Free collection is always available, and we will show you the charger, the battery removal and the ride modes before you head home.
You will hear from us at every stage – confirmation, a date, and a message on the day – and our delivery page covers the small print on damage, returns and cancellations.
Whether you collect or we deliver, the hand-over is the same: battery in and out, charger connected, ride modes explained, seat set for the rider, paperwork in your hand. Ask anything then or on WhatsApp afterwards; the person who answers is the person who checked the bike.

Light Bee L1E for sale: questions we get asked
- “Is every Light Bee L1E for sale road legal?” Only with its paperwork – a CoC for a new bike or a V5C for a registered one – and the restriction intact.
- “Can you register a Light Bee L1E for sale for me?” We supply the CoC and talk you through the V55/4; the application is in your name.
- “Does a used L1E need an MOT?” Once it is three years old, yes.
- “Is a Light Bee L1E for sale abroad cheaper?” It may look it, but without a CoC the DVLA will not register it.
- “What insurance class is it?” Moped – one of the cheapest classes.

Where do people actually ride? Three places, mostly: their own or a friend’s land, a pay-and-play venue, and a practice track or club. The first is free but needs permission; the second costs a day fee and provides marked routes and marshals; the third adds coaching and racing. Phone any venue before you go to confirm it takes electric bikes and the rider’s age.

Frequently asked questions
What paperwork does a Light Bee L1E for sale need?
New: a certificate of conformity and invoice. Used: a V5C in the seller’s name with a matching frame number, plus an MOT once the bike is three years old.
How much is a new Light Bee L1E?
£4,499 including VAT at Surron E-Bikes, with the CoC, UK charger, inspection and warranty. 15% off if you pay by crypto.
How much is a used Light Bee L1E?
Roughly £3,300–£3,900 for a registered 2025–26 bike with paperwork, a healthy battery and the restriction intact.
Can I buy a Light Bee L1E for sale without a CoC and register it?
No. The DVLA needs the certificate of conformity to register a new vehicle. Without it, or a V5C, the bike is off-road only.
Is a derestricted L1E still road legal?
No. Removing the 45 km/h restriction takes it outside its type approval and voids the legality – and usually the insurance.
What licence do I need?
From 16, a provisional licence plus a CBT with L-plates; a full car licence issued before February 2001; or any full motorcycle licence.
Do you deliver a Light Bee L1E?
Yes – £19.99 in our own van within 150 miles of Coalville, quoted beyond that; collection is free.
Can I ride the L1E off-road too?
Yes. It shares the Light Bee X’s suspension and wheels, and because it is registered it can also use green lanes that are legally roads.
Where is the best place to find a Light Bee L1E for sale?
An authorised Sur-Ron dealer that supplies the certificate of conformity. Surron E-Bikes sells the 2026 L1E with UK delivery or free collection from Coalville.
Seven checks, and the Light Bee L1E for sale you buy will be one you can actually register and ride. See the new 2026 L1E, or read our other guides.
