Every Light Bee for sale looks the same in a photo. In the workshop they are anything but: we see 2026 bikes with a fresh 10 kW motor and 72 V battery next to tired 60 V imports with a charger from another continent and a battery that will not hold a charge. This guide gives you eight checks to run on any listing, new or used, before money changes hands.
It is written by Surron E-Bikes, an authorised Sur-Ron dealer in Coalville, Leicestershire. We sell new bikes, so read the new-versus-used sections with that in mind; the checks themselves apply to any seller, including us.

Check 1: which Light Bee for sale is it?
The Light Bee has been through several generations, and a listing that just says “Sur-Ron Light Bee” could be any of them. The 2026 Light Bee X has a new mid-mounted 10 kW motor, a 72 V 35 Ah battery, four-piston brakes and Sport/Eco modes. Earlier bikes ran a 60 V system with less power and a different charger. The Light Bee L1E is the road-legal version with lights, mirrors, indicators and type approval, restricted to 28 mph.
| Light Bee for sale | System | Peak power | Road legal | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Bee X 2026 | 72 V 35 Ah | 10 kW | No | Current bike, from £3,295 new |
| Light Bee L1E 2026 | 72 V 35 Ah | 10 kW | Yes, L1e | £4,499 new, needs registering |
| Earlier Light Bee X / S (60 V) | 60 V | Lower | No (some L1E variants yes) | Used only; check battery age |
Ask the seller for the model year and the battery voltage. If they do not know, the photos will tell you: the 2026 bike has the new motor casing and the four-piston callipers.

Check 2: the battery
The battery is roughly a third of the value of any Light Bee for sale, and it is the one thing you cannot judge from a photo. A pack that has been charged at room temperature and stored around half charge will last for years; one that was left flat in a shed over winter, or charged while frozen, may have lost a large slice of its capacity permanently.
- Ask for a battery health read-out. Our workshop can do one if the bike is local.
- Ask how the bike was stored and whether the battery came indoors.
- Check the range the seller quotes against the 75 km Sur-Ron figure for the 2026 bike.
- Look at the connector and casing for corrosion or damage.
- Factor a replacement pack into your offer if there is any doubt.
Check 3: the charger and the paperwork
A UK-supplied Light Bee for sale comes with a UK-plug charger and an invoice from an authorised dealer listing the frame and battery serial numbers. A bike with an EU or US charger and no invoice is almost certainly an import, which means no UK warranty and, for insurers, a harder conversation. Ask to see the invoice and check the serial numbers match the bike.
For an L1E, add the certificate of conformity (new) or the V5C (registered). Without one of those it cannot be put on the road.
Check 4: frame, forks, chain and brakes
Walk round any used Light Bee for sale with this list. None of it takes more than ten minutes.
- Frame: look for cracks or repairs around the headstock, swingarm pivot and footpeg mounts.
- Forks: check the seals for oil weeping and the stanchions for pitting.
- Chain and sprockets: hooked teeth or a chain that lifts off the rear sprocket mean both need replacing.
- Brakes: discs scored or blued, pads down to the backing, levers spongy.
- Wheels: spin them and listen; rock them for bearing play.
- Controller and throttle: all modes select, no error codes, throttle returns cleanly.

Check 5: the price
New, the 2026 Light Bee X is from £3,295 including VAT at Surron E-Bikes and the L1E is £4,499; that is the benchmark for any Light Bee for sale. Used prices depend on generation, battery and paperwork.
| Light Bee for sale | Fair range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New 2026 Light Bee X, dealer | From £3,295 | Warranty, PDI, UK charger included |
| New 2026 L1E, dealer | £4,499 | With certificate of conformity |
| Used 2025–26 Light Bee X, cared for | £2,400–£3,000 | Invoice, UK charger, healthy battery |
| Used 60 V Light Bee, older | £1,300–£2,200 | Battery age is everything |
| “New” under £3,000 on a marketplace | Caution | Grey import or drop-ship; check charger and warranty |
A cared-for used 2026 bike at £2,800 against a new one at £3,295 with a warranty and an inspection is a smaller gap than it looks.
Check 6: warranty and who stands behind it
A new Light Bee for sale from an authorised dealer carries a manufacturer warranty handled in the UK. A used bike carries whatever is left of it, and only if it was UK-supplied. An import carries nothing. Ask the seller who would handle a controller fault in month three; a dealer will describe the process, a marketplace seller will change the subject. Our warranty page sets out what is covered.
Check 7: the seller
- Authorised dealer: physical showroom, workshop, parts on the shelf, warranty handled here. Safest.
- Private seller: fine if the paperwork and battery check out and you can see the bike.
- Marketplace “new” listing: ask for the trading address, dealer status and charger type before anything else.
- Overseas seller: shipping, duty and VAT usually cancel the saving; no UK warranty.
Why buy from us rather than a marketplace listing? Because a bike is only as good as the aftercare. Our Coalville workshop sees Sur-Rons every day, holds genuine Light Bee X parts on the shelf and handles warranty work directly. You get a real invoice with serial numbers for your insurer, a bike that has actually been checked, and someone to phone when you have a question.
There is no call centre and no ticket queue. Message us on WhatsApp, email contact@surronebike.org or visit the showroom Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and the person answering has probably built the bike you are asking about.
Check 8: the law, before you buy
Before anything else: the Light Bee X is an off-road bike. It is not an e-bike in the pedal-assist sense (the legal definition is here), and it has no moped or motorcycle approval, so it cannot be plated. Ride it on private land with permission or at an off-road venue, never on the road, pavement, footpath, bridleway or in a public park.
The upside of that status is simplicity: no registration, no MOT, no tax, no compulsory insurance, and no licence needed. A specialist off-road policy covering theft and damage is cheap and sensible, and a CE-marked helmet, gloves, boots and a chest protector should be treated as part of the purchase.
Because it is a moped rather than a motorcycle, the licence bar is low: 16 years old, a provisional licence and a one-day CBT. There is no theory test and no practical test unless you want to remove the L-plates later. Riders with a car licence from before February 2001, or any full motorcycle licence, can ride it straight away.

- Certificate of conformity – the document needed to register a type-approved bike with the DVLA.
- Grey import – a bike bought abroad and shipped privately, usually without a UK warranty.
- L1e – the EU/UK moped vehicle class; the Light Bee L1E is type-approved in it.
- EAPC – electrically assisted pedal cycle, the 250 W legal e-bike category the Sur-Ron range is not part of.
- Ride modes – selectable power levels; Mode 1 is the gentlest.
- Big Wheel / Small Wheel – the two Hyper Bee wheel formats, 14/12 and 12/10 inches.
- PDI – pre-delivery inspection: the checks a dealer makes before the bike leaves.
Light Bee for sale: where to ride it once you own it
Finding somewhere to ride is easier than it used to be. Search for motocross practice tracks and pay-and-play venues within an hour of you, phone to check they accept electric bikes and the rider’s age group, and ask about electric-only or youth sessions – many venues now run them because electric bikes solve their noise problem. Youth motocross clubs affiliated to the ACU are the other route, and club membership usually includes third-party cover.
- Read the ride-mode and battery sections of the manual – it takes ten minutes.
- Start in the lowest mode on open ground with no obstacles.
- Practise stopping: the front brake is powerful and the bike is light.
- Keep the first sessions short and finish before the rider is tired.
- Check the bolts after the first few rides; new bikes settle.

Frequently asked questions
What should a used Light Bee for sale cost?
Roughly £2,400–£3,000 for a cared-for 2025–26 Light Bee X with paperwork and a healthy battery; £1,300–£2,200 for an older 60 V bike depending on battery age.
What should a new Light Bee for sale cost?
From £3,295 including VAT for the 2026 Light Bee X and £4,499 for the L1E from an authorised dealer, with inspection and warranty included.
How do I check a Light Bee battery?
Ask for a health read-out – our workshop can do one – and ask how it was stored. A pack left flat over winter may be permanently damaged.
Is any Light Bee for sale road legal?
Only the Light Bee L1E, which is type-approved and needs registering. The Light Bee X and older X/S bikes are off-road only.
How do I know if a Light Bee is UK-spec?
UK-plug charger, an invoice from an authorised dealer with serial numbers, and a warranty handled in the UK.
Can I see a Light Bee before I buy?
Yes – book a showroom visit in Coalville, Leicestershire, ten minutes from junction 22 of the M1.
Do you buy used Light Bees?
We do not run a formal part-exchange, but the workshop can health-check your bike so you know what it is worth privately.
Does a new Light Bee need assembling?
From a crate, yes. From us, no – the pre-delivery inspection is done before it leaves.
Run the eight checks and the right Light Bee for sale will be obvious, new or used. See the 2026 Light Bee X, the Light Bee L1E, or read our other guides.
